xG’s initial product release is xMax®, the world’s first
carrier-class cognitive radio network. Operating within the
902-928 MHz license-free band, xMax is a mobile VoIP and
data system that utilizes an end-to-end Internet Protocol
(IP) system architecture — an industry first. The xMax
product suite includes a line of handsets, base stations,
mobile switching centers, network management systems,
deployment tools, and customer support. This turnkey
solution represents the first commercially available, fully
mobile VoIP and broadband network.
The xMax system allows mobile operators to utilize free,
unlicensed 902-928 MHz ISM band spectrum (available in most
of the Americas) instead of purchasing scarce licensed
spectrum costing millions of dollars. By leveraging these
benefits, wireless operators can deploy advanced services
that deliver excellent quality, reliability and scalability
— with significantly lower CAPEX compared to other
carrier-class wireless technologies. xMax modules can also
be incorporated into any end-user device.
To demonstrate its game-changing products, the Company has
deployed a 30 square mile xMax network in the
interference-laden Fort Lauderdale, Florida area. This
network showcases xG’s cognitive radio, high-quality mobile
VoIP, and dynamic interference mitigation capabilities. In
recognition of its achievement, xG received Internet
Telephony Magazine’s 2009 Product of the Year Award for xMax.
xG’s cognitive radio technology and the xMax system
represent one segment of a broader patent portfolio
generated by the company’s extensive R&D activity and a $100
million international effort producing over 50 U.S. and 100
international patents and pending patent applications.
